Nazareth Bonifacino Law was founded to provide “sophisticated yet approachable legal services to a diverse group of clients who are working to make positive change in their community or industries.” The company serves as outside general counsel to both for-profit and non-profit clients in the areas of business, intellectual property and education law. In January 2022, it became the first B Corp Law firm in Maryland.
From the start, Natasha Nazareth and Ginny Cascio Bonifacino prioritized becoming a B Corp because they knew it would be an important investment in themselves and for their clients. They feel that B Corp certification “makes it easier for clients to find us and to trust that we walk our talk. It differentiates us from other law firms on values, service, and shared community.” They find that certification provides a sense of confidence for clients “that they are engaging counsel with shared values.”
To become a certified B Corp, Nazareth Bonifacino had to be more proactive and intentional in documenting their community support and pro bono legal services to underserved populations in the Mid-Atlantic region. The B Corp certification required them to think differently in order to quantify this work and be able to articulate it in terms of impact.
For companies that want to pursue the B Corp certification, Natasha says, “Just do it! It is very likely that you are likely already doing a lot of what you need to do – you just need to write it down.” She also notes, “give yourself grace if it takes longer to certify than you anticipate.”
